Ahmedabad shopkeepers woo customers with heavy discounts

Ahmedabad, Aug 16: Readymade garment shopkeepers are attracting customers by giving them heavy discounts to beat the recession here.
Customers were seen making a beeline for the shops.
"There is recession and we must do shopping, especially when there are such good offers and good choice," said Kinjal Jani, a customer.
Vigya Shah, another customer, said, "There is a good variety now so we are making use of it. The prices may increase further in the future so I am purchasing now."
The shops selling dress materials and traditional wares were busy dealing with customers. Thus the term economic slowdown is something that seems to be remarkably missing because of sale and discount offers.
"The garments which we usually sell at 700 rupees, 800 rupees and 1000 rupees, we are selling at 500 rupees. We are asking the artisans to cut down on their profits a bit. We are telling the retailers that if they give us discounts then we will pick up more stuff," said Bharat Modi, a shopkeeper.
