‘Ajab Prem Ki…’ Did Well Over ‘Jail’ On Day 1

Ranbir-Katrina starrer 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab KahaniAjab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' has set the box office afire, pushing aside Neil Nitin Mukesh-starrer 'Jail' on the first day of its release.

''Ajab Prem Ki...' has enjoyed wonderful opening due to its amazing star cast, but it will suffer on the story part. On the other hand, 'Jail' witnessed a dumb opening i. e. around 20%.

Produced by Ramesh S. Taurani and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, 'Ajab Prem Ki...' also stars Bollywood's bad boy Salman Khan in a pivotal role.

In contrast, 'Jail, which has been co-produced under the banner of Bhandarkar Entertainment & Percept Picture Company, is the tale of a common man, who one day sees himself in prison for unidentified reasons.

Besides Neil and Mugda Godse, the film also stars Manoj Bajpai.

A source from Big Cinemas said, "'Ajab Prem Ki...' has got a tremendous opening. It is a totally entertaining movie for both classes and masses and a complete family watch with good acting, fast tempo and nice packaging. Audiences are loving it." The film 'Jail' shows life led by criminals in prison and effect of jail environment on its inmates. Even though, Bhandarkar has proven his spirit with the movie, the BO victory of this one is doubtful as a family would think two times before seeing it.

However, Yogesh Raizada, corporate head of Wave Cinemas, has a totally different view.

'Ajab Prem Ki...' has got an average occupancy of over 80% and that is apparent owing to the humor and love element. But even with a 40% begining, 'Jail' is much strong on content and is being apprized by the viewers as well as critics.

"Both films should at least extend for one weekend without fail. 'Jail will definitely pick up Saturday onwards despite being only for a niche clientele," Mr. Raizada added.
