New Delhi, Aug. 5 : Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram has said that the culture of sports science should be inculcated in modern day cricket to help fast bowlers deliver their best for a longer period of time.
“This initiative is special to me for another reason – it also inculcates the culture of sports science in the players at the young age which I believe is critical if one is to consistently deliver at one’s best over a long period of time,” the Daily Times quoted Akram, as saying.
He was speaking at the conclusion of the 19-day long Gatorade Centre for Pace Excellence training camp for the selected nine fast bowlers in New Delhi on Monday.
During the camp, Akram gave tips to players on how to identify a batsman’s weaknesses, especially when they are bowling on flat, sub-continental pitches.
Akram said he was impressed with the nine young fast bowlers who attended the camp.
“India has never had dearth of talent but initiatives like Gatorade Pacers that spots and scientifically trains the talent will go a long way in getting India’s next generation of fast bowlers,” said Wasim. (ANI)
