Apple's New iPad Might Pose Trouble for Intel's Mobile Push

Apple-iPadRecently, Apple Inc. took the wraps off its iPad, and amidst all the hue and cry, one important detail almost got missed, which is that the new iPad will be powered by an in-house built chip christened the A4.

While Apple will most probably not be marketing the chip publicly, analysts are of the opinion that the new processor might just underscore how chip designs from competitors and rivals might eventually end up winning out over Intel Corp's designs in the rapidly rising market for devices like smartphones and tablets.

"They (Intel) don't have a track record in delivering these types of chips. They haven't been successful in the past, and they're trying to get in", said Wedbush Morgan analyst Patrick Wang.

"If you look at the stuff Intel's put out there at previous press events and developer forums, you see mobile Internet devices that are kind of clunky, really thick, low-battery life type of devices. They've been worried", he said.
