Atouba looking to extend contract with SV Hamburg

Atouba looking to extend contract with SV Hamburg Hamburg - Defender Thimothee Atouba wants to extend his contract at Bundesliga club SV Hamburg when it runs out at the end of the season.

"I want to stay," the 27-year-old Cameroonian told Friday's Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper.

Atouba is currently building up his fitness as he continues his recovery from an Achilles tendon injury sustained last October.

"If things continue as they are then Timmy could be available for us in the final games of May," said Hamburg coach Martin Jol.

However, Jol added that he doesn't believe Atouba will be with Hamburg going forward.

"I'm not planning with Timmy lining out for Hamburg next season."

Atouba explained that he turned down an offer of an extension to his contract immediately after his injury as well as revealing that he has already received enquiries from other clubs.

"I wanted to get fit first," he said. "I've been at Hamburg for four years, I don't have to prove anything anymore, not to Hamburg or other clubs." (dpa)
