‘Bajaj brand is more like a zoo’

Rajiv-BajajAfter Rajiv Bajaj made his strategy of the company to distance itself from the mother brand Bajaj public, many questions were raised over the viability of the move. But Rajiv says he is very confident as Bajaj portfolio is today very different as compared to what it was in the 1980s.

Rajiv Bajaj said that in the 80s Bajaj offered value for money scooters in the form of Chetak, Priya etc. which were more or less similar to each other and hence reflected the Bajaj image but today Bajaj has various products under various categories which are totally different to each other and hence carrying the Bajaj brand does not makes any sense.

Bajaj said that Bajaj Auto portfolio today is more like a Zoo where you have an elephant in the form of Pulsar and a small animal in the form of a discover, all in all Bajaj is like a "zoo unfortunately that has no pedigree ."

In fact, Rajiv also highlighted the fact that in the earlier times even if you make a three-wheeler stand along with the two-wheelers it looked more like from one family but not anymore and hence there is a need to highlight the sub brands to make the perception clear in the minds of the consumer of what to expect.
