Bangalore DJ arrested on drug peddling chargeBangalore, Oct 10 A 23-year-old Bangalore-based disc jockey (DJ) was arrested on charges of peddling drugs, police here said Saturday.

Nishchit Lalwani was arrested by sleuths of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Bangalore police Friday on charges of possessing 354 grams of hashish (cannabis), a banned drug, worth Rs. 1 lakh.

Lalwani, a resident of Ranka Park Apartment on Lal Bagh Road here, has been working as a DJ in various city night clubs since 2003, a police officer said.

"Acting on a tip-off, we arrested Lalwani from his flat with the drug. Recently, he was in Goa for a performance. He purchased the contraband from Goa and was planning to sell it to his clients in the city."

"Under anti-narcotics rules, smuggling and selling of banned narcotic drug is a punishable offence with a minimum of 10 years of jail. Currently, he is in police custody," said an officer.

According to police, many night clubs and discotheque in the city are primarily hubs of drug peddlers where they sell the contraband to clients, who mostly comprise youths. (IANS)
