Beech-Nut Nutrition recalls 1,920 pounds of Baby Food

The baby food company Beech-Nut Nutrition has recalled about 1,920 pounds of baby food. According to reports, the decision has been taken after an infant was hurt by a small piece of glass that was found inside one of the jars.

The recall of baby food involves 4-ounce jars of sweet potato and chicken that are sold under the Stage 2 Beech-Nut Classics name. As per the company's spokeswoman Kirsten Whipple, Beech-Nut Nutrition was informed about the problem by a mother who called the company's helpline.

The latest move by the food company was one of the two baby food recalled in North America this week. On Wednesday, the food processing company HJ Heinz Co announced that it was recalling a number of chicken-and-broth jars in Canada as to a small number of safety caps were dented or popped. According to the Pittsburgh headquartered company if the seal of jar breaks, the food could get spoiled.

Last month, Northfield headquartered food manufacturing company Kraft Foods Group Inc., had recalled some of its products. According to reports, that time, the company had recalled over six million boxes of its hallmark Macaroni and Cheese after some customers found metal pieces in boxes.

In the recent case, Beech-Nut received one report of a person being hurt from the affected food product. According to reports, the product was manufacture on December 12. Earlier this week, Food Safety and Inspection Service of the United States Department of Agriculture announced the recall.

On website, the company announced, "We have no indication that any other jar of our Classics Stage 2 Sweet Potato & Chicken is affected, but as a company of parents and families we are acting with an abundance of caution".

In a statement, the company said in any case if a baby eats one of the affected products, parents should consult a doctor.
