Sunil Bharti Mittal led Bharti Airtel has made its foray into the media and entertainment business through the launch of Airtel Digital Media Business. Airtel Digital Media will be offering content delivery solutions to various media and entertainment companies and producers.
Sanjay Kapoor, the Chief executive of Airtel for India and South Asia, informed that Airtel's digital media business will focus on making India a hub for global content and format delivery in the sector. The company will basically try cash on the demand for secure digital distribution capability across multiple platforms in the media and entertainment space.
Airtel's entry in this space will help around 16, 000 cinema screens scattered in the nook and cranny of the country to offer a cinema viewing experience which is matches the international quality. For the television industry, the company will provide content gathering and distribution services.
Airtel's debut in the media and entertainment sector is critical especially at this time when there is huge growth in this industry. As per a report from PricewaterhouseCoopers, India's media and entertainment industry's current size is Rs. 61, 000 crore and it is suppose to grow at an impressive CAGR of 11% over the next four years to reach Rs. 92, 000 by the year 2 013.
