Patna, Nov 9 : A court in Bihar Monday sentenced a man convicted of killing a Muslim teenager during the 1989 communal riots in Bhagalpur to life imprisonment.

Bhagalpur Additional District and Sessions Judge Arvind Madhav sentenced Kameshwar Yadav to life imprisonment Monday.

Unhappy with the court's judgement, many of Yadav's supporters shouted slogans against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Two days ago, the court had found Yadav guilty of shooting dead Mohammad Qayyum, 15.

New Delhi, July 24 : Both the Janata Dal (United) and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) today expelled two of their MP’s for violating the party whip in the vote of confidence on July 22.

The UPA Government won the trust vote by 275 to 256.

In the July 22 trust vote won by the UPA Government by a margin of 19 votes, as many as 21 MPs belonging to different political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress cross-voted. Ten members remained absent or abstained from voting.

Bangkok - Bangkok's Criminal Court Monday said a Canadian paedophile nabbed in Thailand last year after German police "unswirled" his altered photograph on the internet has been given an additional six years in jail.

The court confirmed that Christopher Paul Neil, 33, had been sentenced to just under six years jail earlier this month for molesting a Thai boy in 2003, after claiming is innocence. He was also ordered to pay 50,000 baht compensation to the boy's family. The verdict was given in an unscheduled hearing on November 14 and not reported at the time.

Washington - An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter Scale has struck in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Japan, the US government reported Monday.

The earthquake took place at 2007 GMT about 170 kilometres southwest of Tokyo, the US Geological Survey in Denver, Colorado, said.

The USGS reported the earthquake moments after announcing 7.6 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Indian Ocean, about 262 kilometres north of India's Andaman Islands.
