Sarajevo - Bosnian Interior Minister Tarik Sadovic was fired Friday, the Bosnian government confirmed.
Local news agency FENA reported that Sadovic's Muslim Party of Democratic Action (SDA) had asked for his replacement after he refused to step down.
Local reports said US officials had accused Sadovic of not taking prompt action in expelling Islamic extremists believed connected with the terrorist network Al Quaeda.
Sadovic was fired over "constant complaints coming from certain important foreign and local institutions," SDA's president Sulejman Tihic said.
Sadovic's removal still has to be approved by parliament.(dpa)
