CBI arrests Nandas over Barak missiles kickbacks

Central Bureau of InvestigationNew Delhi, Mar 9 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday reportedly arrested arms dealer Suresh Nanda and his son Sanjeev Nanda on charges of receiving kickbacks in the controversial Barak missile deal.

Suresh Nanda, son of former Navy chief Admiral S. M. Nanda, and his son were arrested from their house here late night after conducting raids in their premises.

Nanda's charted accountant and an income tax officer were also taken into custody for trying to manipulate IT orders in Nanda's favour.

The External Affairs Ministry had earlier suspended Suresh Nanda’s passport on the CBI’s request.

Suresh Nanda is alleged to have received over 450 crores rupees kickbacks in connection with Barak Anti-Missile System acquired from Israel.

Former Defence Minister George Fernandes and the then Naval Chief Admiral Susheel Kumar is an accused in the Rs 1,150 crore Barak missile deal in the CBI’s FIR, in which Nanda is alleged to have paid money to then Samata Party treasurer R K Jain.

Nanda is also an accused in a case on purchase of Armoured Recovery Vehicles being probed by the agency. (ANI)
