Chhattisgarh top cop reacts strongly to lawyer's remark

Raipur-Chhattisgarh-MapRaipur, Jan 11 : Chhattisgarh police chief Vishwa Ranjan Monday reacted strongly to leading Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan's comment that he would either end up in jail or himself become a victim of violence.

A section of media here carried a report Monday that the lawyer, during his just ended trip to the state to probe alleged police atrocities on civilians of Maoist-hit areas and human rights violations, said that the Chhattisgarh director general of police would either be shot dead or put behind bars.

Ranjan told IANS: "Death comes only once in anybody's life and I least care about my death. But who is Prashant Bhushan to say either I will be shot dead or be put in jail?"

Asked about his statement, Prashant Bhushan told IANS over phone that he was visiting the house of a lawyer here Sunday where he had said that "if activists are falsely implicated, false cases registered, scribes from outside the state are not allowed to visit the state, and human rights violations continue, then a person who carries out a reign of terror is likely to either end up in jail or himself become a victim of violence".(IANS)
