Children as Young as Five in the Clutch of AnorexiaAnorexia nervosa, or simply anorexia, the eating disorder featured by negation to sustain a healthy body weight and a neurotic trepidation of putting on weight, is spreading like a wildfire among children in the United Kingdom.

According to statistics broadcasted by NHS trusts, children are rapidly gaining obsessions with their size, particularly girls.

The number of children under nine years of age needing medical supervision has doubled since last year.

The statistics reveal that nearly 98 children between five and seven years of age were hospitalized during the last three years, owing to eating disorders that teenagers and adults would generally face.

In addition, 1900 children between 10 and 15 years of age were also hospitalized during the same period. These cases only represent those children whose infirmity is so sensitive that their life is endangered.

Earlier in April, a study conducted by the Royal College of Psychiatrists revealed that an "urgent action" was mandatory to enhance the detection of various eating disorders in children.

Meanwhile, doctors have warned that kids are developing an “unhealthy relationship” with food. The ultra slim models and celebs that are seen in the media are narrowly followed by youngsters mulling emulate their appearance.

The reasons for developing anorexia may include cultural pressure, genetics, stress and body image.
