Samsung dismisses reports of possible RIM takeover

South Korean electronics giant, Samsung Electronics has dismissed repots suggesting it will acquire Research In Motion (RIM), the maker of the popular BlackBerry family of smartphones.

The reports suggesting a possible buyout by Samsung resulted in a 8 percent increase share prices of Canada Based RIM. James Chung, a Seoul-based spokesman for Samsung pointed out that the company has never considered the possibility of acquiring RIM and there has been no contact between the firms.

Samsung Electronics Posts 83% Growth In Q2 NetDuring the second quarter, South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics Co registered an increase of 83% in its net profit at 4.28 trillion won ($3.6 billion) from 2.33 trillion won year on year.

The company's net profit went up on the back of sturdy demand for chips and flatscreen televisions.

During the three month period ended June 2010, the company's operating profit surged 88% to 5 trillion won.

Sales grew by 17% to 37.99 trillion won.

Samsung eyes growth in touch phone segmentKolkata, Dec 9 : Mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics is upbeat about the Indian market and hopes to grow over 18 percent in value terms this fiscal, a top official said Wednesday.

"Last year we registered 18.5 percent growth in value terms and we're expecting this to be maintained this year as well," Samsung India Electronics director (IT) Ranjit S. Yadav said.

"We would aim at being a strong number two (after Nokia)," he told reporters after launching Samsung's new touch screen mobile phones here.

Samsung to build LCD plant in China

Samsung to build LCD plant in ChinaSeoul  - Samsung Electronics Co plans to invest 2.6 trillion won (2.23 billion dollars) in a plant for building liquid crystal display (LCD) panels in China, the company said Friday.

South Korea's leading technology firm said it planned to form a joint venture to build the plant in Suzhou in western China, but did not elaborate who would be its partner and the size of its stake in the project.

The Suzhou plant was to produce 40-inch (102-centimetre) LCD panels of the 7.5th generation as of 2011, Samsung said.
