South Korean electronics giant, Samsung Electronics has dismissed repots suggesting it will acquire Research In Motion (RIM), the maker of the popular BlackBerry family of smartphones.

The reports suggesting a possible buyout by Samsung resulted in a 8 percent increase share prices of Canada Based RIM. James Chung, a Seoul-based spokesman for Samsung pointed out that the company has never considered the possibility of acquiring RIM and there has been no contact between the firms.

Samsung Electronics has revealed its new plans to expand the Smart television market in India, keeping in view the increasing demand of smart phones and televisions. As a part of its new plans, Samsung will offer discounts on its 3D TV and Home Theatre packages for consumers. The company will run these promotional offers till August 31, 2011, for 3D TVs and Smart Televisions. The new offers are expected to increase the sale of its Smart and 3D Televisions.

South Korean Electronics giant, Samsung Electronics has urged a court to order Apple to disclose the upcoming models of its iPhone smartphone and iPad tablets, arguing it needs the information to defend against complaint that it copies Apple’s products.

Samsung Electronics is the world's second-biggest maker of mobile phones. A recent company filing has reported that the company has posted a record net profit last year. This was due to the increasing view in the fast-growing market for hand-held mobile devices.

It has been expected by analysts that the South Korean company would unite with Apple in the smartphone and tablet PC race, along with its new Galaxy smartphones. It is projected that this would accumulate a serious challenge to the iPhone.

A new Android handset Galaxy U (SHW-M130L) is all set to launch by Samsung Electronics in their home country South Korea by the end of this week. Samsung has announced its features and capabilities officially and it is expected that it supports wireless carrier LG u+.

Galaxy U will be available in two colours, black and white and the price tagged with the device is Rs 80,000 i.e. $682.

Talking about its specifications, it has 1GHz S5PC111 processor with Samsung preloaded on it, which is friendly to work with Google's Android 2.1 OS.

During the second quarter, South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics Co registered an increase of 83% in its net profit at 4.28 trillion won ($3.6 billion) from 2.33 trillion won year on year.

The company's net profit went up on the back of sturdy demand for chips and flatscreen televisions.

During the three month period ended June 2010, the company's operating profit surged 88% to 5 trillion won.

Sales grew by 17% to 37.99 trillion won.

Kolkata, Dec 9 : Mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics is upbeat about the Indian market and hopes to grow over 18 percent in value terms this fiscal, a top official said Wednesday.

"Last year we registered 18.5 percent growth in value terms and we're expecting this to be maintained this year as well," Samsung India Electronics director (IT) Ranjit S. Yadav said.

"We would aim at being a strong number two (after Nokia)," he told reporters after launching Samsung's new touch screen mobile phones here.

Seoul  - Samsung Electronics Co plans to invest 2.6 trillion won (2.23 billion dollars) in a plant for building liquid crystal display (LCD) panels in China, the company said Friday.

South Korea's leading technology firm said it planned to form a joint venture to build the plant in Suzhou in western China, but did not elaborate who would be its partner and the size of its stake in the project.

The Suzhou plant was to produce 40-inch (102-centimetre) LCD panels of the 7.5th generation as of 2011, Samsung said.
