Congress calls for 12 hour Bengal shutdown on FridayKolkata, July 16 : The West Bengal Congress Committee has called for a 12hour long statewide bandh on Friday, to protest against the alleged police atrocities on its workers during Thursday's 12 hour long shutdown.

Congress called for 12hour long shut down on Thursday to protest against the attack on its MLA s in Mongalkote in Burdwan district on Wednesday.

A party activist was killed during Thursday's shut down, and as many as four buses were set ablaze by the angry Congress workers. They also disturbed the rail and road services at many places in the state.

Party's state unit working President Subrata Mukherjee described the attack on their legislators as barbaric state sponsored attack. He demanded for the suspension of Police Superintendent and District Magistrate of Burdwan.

Meanwhile, the Congress has also urged the Trinamool Congress to support the shutdown.

Congress party workers accused CPM cadres of attacking Congress leaders across the state since the Lok Sabha polls and said that their protests would continue until the Communist government comes down from power. (ANI)
