Court denies anticipatory bail to the Rathore in the Ruchika molestation case

A session court has denied anticipatory bail to S. P. S., the former DGP of Haryana on Friday. Two FIRs where registered against Rathore in the molestation case of Ruchika Gehrotra, a budding tennis player.

According to the FIRs filed by Ruchika's father Subhash and brother Ashu on December 29, Rathore has been convicted of molesting teenager Ruchika and was booked for the charges of attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, forging and fabricating evidence, wrongful confinement and criminal conspiracy, which are non-bailable charges.

With a fear of the involvement of the high rank officers in the case, the Haryana government has already recommended the CBI to take over the case as it may create complexities for the police force.

On the condition of anonymity, a senior official said, "It is not easy to go against a senior person from the force. Meetings are being held at the highest level at the moment and nobody wants to take the first step."

Anticipatory bail has also been rejected for another Haryana police officer, Sewa Singh, a sub-inspector posted at Pinjore near Panchkula. Singh has been accused of booking Ruchika's brother Ashu in false cases of car theft, allegedly at Rathore's behest.

The sole witness in the case, Aradhana, friend of Ruchika was happy with the court's verdict. At Rathore's arrest she said that the CBI being an independent agency should be made to take over the case as she has no hope from the Haryana government.

Mr. Pankaj Bhardwaj, Girhotra's lawyer, has alleged that the special investigation team has been protecting Rathore. He indicated that they could go to higher court if Rathore doesn't get arrested.
