Court orders probe into garbage burning near ShimlaShimla, Dec 22 :The Himachal Pradesh High Court Tuesday took serious note of the burning of garbage on the outskirts of Shimla town since Sunday and appointed a one-member committee to probe into the causes of fire.

A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice R. B. Misra and Justice Rajeev Sharma appointed a one-member committee, comprising a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Deepak Shanan, to probe the cause of fire in the dumping site.

He has been asked to identify the health officials whose failure could have led to the fire in the dumping site.

The court also observed that the Shimla Municipal Corporation was not disposing of the garbage scientifically.

It directed the corporation to complete all formalities to set up a garbage dumping plant near Tutu in Shimla within six months.

A thick blanket of smog emanated after the garbage was set on fire Sunday. Some smog was seen billowing from the site even Tuesday. (IANS)
