Direct Cash Transfer will lead to seamless transition: ChidambaramUnion Finance Minister P. Chidambaram has reiterated that the Government's ambitious Direct Cash Transfer system would eliminate leakages, delays and falsification, and lead to a seamless transition.

Answering a question by BJP leader Prakash Javadekar in Rajya Sabha, Mr. Chidambaram said, "It will lead to seamless transition. The Government firmly believes this will introduce a very high degree of efficiency and transparency."

The Finance Minister also denied that the charge that the Government devised and implemented the Direct Cash Transfer scheme in a rush.

Speaking on the topic, he added that a total of 34 central sector and centrally sponsored schemes had been identified for the cash transfers.

The schemes identified for the Direct Cash Transfer system include post- and pre-matric scholarships for SC students, pre-matric scholarships for kids of those engaged in unclean occupations, subsidies on fees to students, fellowship schemes of the UGC and AICTE, national means-cum-merit scholarships, Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship, Maulana Azad National Fellowship, and national schemes for incentives for the girl child for secondary education.

The Government has already started the process for executing direct transfer of cash subsidy on PDS kerosene in eleven states and all Union Territories (UTs).
