Dolphins spotted creating raft to keep injured member afloat

Dolphins spotted creating raft to keep injured member afloatAn amazing footage has captured dolphins teaming together to keep an injured member of the group afloat by creating a sort of raft.

Kyum Park of the Cetacean Research Institute in Ulsan, South Korea filmed as dolphins tried to rescue an injured member of their group. The recording shows 12 dolphins swimming closely together to help a dolphin stay afloat.

A dolphin wriggled and tips from side to side while turning upside-down and her flippers seem to be paralysed. Other dolphins dived under her and tried to keep her afloat. The dolphins formed a kind of raft by swimming next to each other for half an hour to help the injured fish stay afloat. However, after some as some of the dolphins left the team, the injured dolphin drowned despite the efforts of the remaining dolphins.

Researchers said that five of the dolphins stayed with the injured dolphin. Experts say that there have been evidence of single dolphins helping others like, especially mothers helping their calves. But, it is the first time so many dolphins came together to protect the injured member. Dolphins are often described as highly intelligent and social animal and forming of a raft is a sophisticated way of helping a dolphin.
