Drone attack kills 10 in Pakistan

Drone attack kills 10 in PakistanPeshawar, Aug. 11 : A US drone strike in north western Pakistan killed at least 10 suspected militants on Tuesday, authorities said.

The attack targeted an insurgents'' camp in South Waziristan near the Afghan border, BBC reported.

The area is the stronghold of Pak-Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud, whose death in an earlier strike has not yet been confirmed.

Hundreds of militants and civilians have been killed in dozen of drone strikes in the tribal regions of North and South Waziristan during the past year.

Earlier, a pre-dawn rocket attack in the Pakistani city of Peshawar killed at least two persons and left three others injured.

BBC quoted a senior police official as saying that around a dozen rockets had landed in the city in the early morning hours, hitting the office of a paramilitary force.

"It is an act of terrorism, but we don''t know who the attackers are," local police official Nisar Khan said.

Peshawar is the main city near the Swat valley, where an offensive was recently waged against the Taliban.

Nobody claimed responsibility for the rocket attacks, which are rare in Pakistan''s cities.

The attack is also being seen as retaliation by the Pakistani Taliban against the government’s ‘false claims’ about their leader Baitullah Mehsud’s killing in a US drone strike. (ANI)
