Dubai World Central to start operations next year

As per the media reports, the June of the 2010 will witness UAE government's biggest urban development project, a high-tech city situated around world's largest airport starting operation.

On Monday, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum informed via a statement that Dubai World Central (DWC), which is almost twice the size of Hong-Kong, will be under multi-phase development with 140 square kilometer developed area.

It should be noted that the full project has been grouped into six special zones, mainly DWC-Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai Logistics City, Aviation City, Residential city Commercial city and Golf resort.

Maktoum expressed, "Our vision for Dubai is to be an unparalleled global commercial, trade and transportation hub with a unique integrated multi-modal logistics platform in DWC which will change all known air, land and sea transportation parameters."

The project would most likely enter its first phase of operation when its airport opens in June 2010. The project will be developed at an estimated infrastructure cost of about $33 billion.

Maktoum, while talking about the first terminal, which was 80 per cent complete, said that while the airport's annual passenger capacity would be 160 million, the first terminal's passenger capacity would be of seven million.
