Fight is on between the makers of a TV documentary on gangs to keep raw footage of interview with Nashville gang leader

According to some media reports, the makers of a TV documentary on gangs are fighting to keep raw footage of an interview with a Nashville gang leader from Tennessee prosecutors.

The (Nashville) Tennessean reported on Tuesday that a Davidson County judge last month ordered Gangland Productions and A&E Television Networks to give up the footage. The producers have appealed Criminal Court Judge Cheryl Blackburn's ruling.

It was further noted by the reports that a jailhouse interview with Jonathan Gutierrez aired last fall on History in an episode of "Gangland" titled "Hunt and Kill." Gutierrez was charged with shooting a member of another gang.

She would personally review all the raw footage and give prosecutors only parts relevant to their case, Blackburn said.

However it was argued by the journalists that giving prosecutors any raw footage is the equivalent of forcing a reporter to turn over notebooks.

A sheriff's deputy was present during the interview. But prosecutors say he did not pay enough attention to what Gutierrez was saying to know if anything incriminating came out. (With Inputs from Agencies)
