Union Finance minister P Chidambaram is meeting the directors and top officials of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI) today, on Saturday, in Mumbai.

The finance minister will first hold a meeting with RBI Governor Duvvuri Subbarao and the central bank's deputy governors at RBI headquarters.

Chidambaram will also meet with the top officials of the National stock Exchange, Bombay Stock Exchange, MCX-SX and the Association of Mutual Funds of India.

Continue to display the government's commitment on reform initiatives, the finance minister will discuss the issues with the industry and mull over ways to provide a boost to the equity markets.

Sources said that there was no agenda for the finance minister's meeting on Saturday. He is expected to hold general discussion on how things are going on within the industry. The finance minister will hold a meeting with a group of foreign institutional investors (FIIs) in the evening to discuss their concerns over investments in the markets.

It is Chidambaram's first official visit to the Mumbai after he took over as Finance Minister on 1st of August.

The meeting is taking place after a series of big-ticket economic reforms, such as opening up of multi-retail, aviation, insurance, pension sectors to foreign investors.
