Kolkata, Jan 9 - Five siblings were charred to death and four of their family members were critically injured in a fire in Kolkata's twin district Howrah early Saturday morning, police said.

The incident took place at Rabigram near Bagnan area when the fire broke out in the house of Ashabul Mallick. Five of his children -- three daughters and two sons -- were burnt to death.

Ashabul, along with his wife, elder son and a daughter received critical burn injuries. They have been admitted to Uluberia State General Hospital, police said.

According to local sources, the fire seemed to have broken out in the early hours of Saturday when a lamp overturned while everyone was asleep. (IANS)
