First part of ejaculate squirt is best for conception: Study

A new study led by Ginemed Assisted Human Reproduction Clinic in Seville, Spain, has revealed that first half of ejaculation is best for conception.

According to the study, first half of ejaculation contains a higher concentration of sperm, which move fast and also possess higher DNA integrity.

Maria Hebles, co-director of the reproduction laboratory at the Ginemed Clinic in Seville, said, "The ejaculate has always been considered as a whole. However, we think that is divided into two well differentiated by their composition and physiological functions, aimed at getting two equal shares in major reproductive phases".

The first fraction of ejaculate includes acid phosphatase, citric acid, magnesium and zinc that protect the sperm. It is meant to inseminate the egg during intercourse.

The second fraction consists of secretions from the seminal vesicles that have a negative effect on sperm.

For the study, researchers collected samples from 40 participants in two consecutive chunks. They used one container for each phase. They were examined to see whether one installment or the other would be preferable for use in in-vitro fertilization (IVF).

The study's lead author, Maria Hebles, co-director of the reproduction laboratory at the Ginemed Clinic in Seville, said that although ejaculate has always been considered as a whole, it is divided into two quite different phases due to its composition and physiological functions.

The division is aimed to achieve two equally important actions in terms of reproduction. Researchers believe that considering separate phases of an ejaculation will let them collect samples that better meet requirements for in- vitro fertilization.

It has been requested that patients for IVF should collect ejaculate in two sections in order to improve the quality of sperm used for fertilization.
