Police arrest robbers-in-khaki

The city police arrested three of their own men, a month after they allegedly robbed a man of Rs14,000 and a mobile phone.

The accused, three constables attached to the Commercial Street police station, face dismissal from service if found guilty.

Arun Kumar, Ramesh and Rajkumar have been absconding ever since the Lokayukta police laid a trap to net them for allegedly demanding a bribe from Umesh, who was detained for interrogation. The three newly-recruited constables demanded money from Umesh to set him free, it is alleged.

Fed-up beau kills girlfriend

A youth, allegedly facing extensive demands and blackmailing from his girlfriend, killed her on a highway at Chambalpur village in Udaipur. The girl was stabbed in the neck five times and then burnt.

Hearing on pleas against Maya, Patel bail today

The appeals against the anticipatory bail granted to Maya Kodnani and Jaydeep Patel will come up for hearing before justice DH Waghela on Tuesday. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) had filed its appeals against the order of the city sessions court granting the leaders anticipatory bail.

Kodnani, minister of state for higher education and woman and children welfare, is facing protests not only from the SIT, but also from three witnesses in the Naroda Patia and Naroda Gaam cases, who moved an application seeking to join as party in the appeal filed by the SIT.

1 held in Yamunanagar burglary

A week after the spate of burglaries at Yamunanagar in Pradhikaran, the police have arrested a suspect.

The police said the suspect has been identified as Rajendra alias Raju Phuge, a resident of Dhankavdi in Pune, adding that 26 cases have already been registered against him at various police stations in the city.

Deputy commissioner of police Mahesh Patil said the police have been able to recover some of the stolen items from the possession of the suspect.

Meanwhile, the Nigdi police have called a meeting with residents of the locality this week.

Demand to scrap indemnity bond
