German fraudster promised love, took moneyWuerzburg, Germany  - A man who allegedly tricked lovestruck women into parting with more than 100,000 euros (142,000 dollars) has been caught by German police, officers in the town of Wuerzburg said Tuesday.

The 41-year-old alleged fraudster is thought to have swindled at least four women across Germany by promising them a shared future whilst also asking them for help with financial problems.

Investigators said the unemployed man had presented himself as a successful businessman to women he met through personal ads.

"As soon as there was talk of great love, the requests came to lend him money for a variety of reasons," the police report said.

When the man allegedly tried to blackmail a woman for 10,000 euros with a secretly filmed video she contacted the police, who arrested him when they met for the money handover in May. (dpa)
