Goa chief minister asks tourists to follow 'code' for safetyPanaji, Dec 17 - Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat Thursday asked tourists to adhere to certain "code and responsibilities" while on holiday in the state.

"There is no restraint on tourists moving out at night but they should follow certain code and responsibilities," Kamat said, without quantifying what he meant by "code and responsibilities".

The state government has also asked the director general of police (DGP) to submit a detailed report on the investigations into the alleged rape of a 25-year-old Russian woman by a local politician.

"I have asked DGP B. S. Bassi to furnish a detailed report of the investigation," the chief minister said.

The Russian rape case, the subsequent police investigations and controversial comments by Congress leaders like Kamat, Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik and a state minister Churchill Alemao, who blamed the victim's hanging out with strangers late in the night for her rape, have come in for much criticism.

The state attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year, including substantial number of foreigners. (IANS)
