Government extends enrolment deadline by one day

Government extends enrolment deadline by one dayThe US government has extended the deadline for signing up for the health insurance under the new healthcare law.

The Obama administration announced that it will keep accepting applications today for signing up for the new system. The White House officials have said that there was high demand for one day extension of the health insurance.

National health insurance companies in the US have said that they have extended the deadline for Americans to pay for coverage that begins on New Year's Day. The move comes as the enrolment through the new federal and state insurance marketplaces increased around the country.

Government figures have shown that more than half a million people have chosen plans in the federal exchange since the beginning of December after a slow start in the initial stages. A number of states that are running their own insurance exchanges are also recording an increase in enrolments.

The Illinois Department of Public Health said that the new platform recorded eight times higher number of people signing up for cover than the first weekend of December. President Barack Obama was signed up for largely symbolic health insurance coverage over the weekend, the White House said Monday.
