Governor Cuomo unveils emergency action to protect workers at NY nail salons

The nail salon industry has shot to limelight after Governor Cuomo unveiled emergency action for the protection of workers.

A lengthy New York Times investigation has revealed that many workers are paid below minimum wage and sometimes they're not paid at all.

On Sunday, Governor Cuomo has stepped in by issuing an emergency order for the protection of the men and women, who are working in New York nail salons.

Cuomo said, "They're not here legally. They don't have working papers. They have to put food on the table. They have to support a child. So they have to do what they have to do".

The task force is going to investigate nail salons for making sure they're following new rules that protect manicurists from potentially dangerous chemicals in nail products. There will also be a 6 language education campaign to aware them of their rights.

Many salons, including T and D Nails, said that they don't need such kinds of measures to protect their employees. Lynh Do, who has worked there for 13 years, has always been treated well.

Do said that over there he promises that they are doing a professional job and cleaning and has been doing all the right things. But the ones who weren't as lucky, it's a protection these dedicated workers should have.

Longtime T and D customer Donna Marra was shocked. She said that this is the United States, and one wouldn't think that such a thing could happen.

Beth Drogoszewski loves to get pampered at T and D Nails in Eastwood. Drogoszewski said that they're incredibly efficient, their prices are wonderful. She said that they know your name when you come in the door.
