Grandad saves 2 mn lives with generous blood donationsA grand dad has become a name in public figure by saving two million lives via generous donation of blood.

James Harrison, 74 has donated blood to nearly a thousand times since doctors found he carries a rare antibody. His blood carries the cure for Rhesus disease – which can cause severe anemia that may result in brain damage or even death.

Till date the native of Australia has saved 2.2 million healthy babies and presently his life is insured for a million Australian dollars.

The popularity has risen to such heights that he has been given the title of the “man with the golden arm”. After a crucial chest surgery at an age of14 when he needed 13 litres of blood, Doctors found the rare antibody and thus, generating a vaccine Anti-D.

James stated: “I’ve never thought about stopping. They insured me for a million dollars so I knew my wife Barbara would be taken care of. I had to sign every form going but I wasn’t scared. I was glad to help.”
