9 out of 10 Brit kids snub healthy meals

9 out of 10 Brit kids snub healthy mealsLondon, Nov 23 : Nine of ten youngsters in Britain ignore healthy eating messages, which is putting them at a higher risk of suffering from long term health problems like obesity, diabetes and heart disease, a new survey has revealed.

The survey by the British Heart Foundation revealed that the majority of the youngsters binge on energy drinks, crisps and chocolate every day.

The typical daily diet of 11-to-16-year-olds includes a packet of crisps, a chocolate bar, a bag of chewy jelly sweets, a fizzy drink and an energy drink, the Daily Express reported.

Only one in 10 said they were eating the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables every day.

The BHF found that almost one in three children is eating sweets, chocolate and crisps three or more times a day and 40 per cent normally have fizzy or energy drinks during the day.

Only 31 per cent eat fruit at lunch, compared with 34 per cent who say they tuck into crisps.

“They are consuming an alarming amount of fizzy drinks, sweets, chocolate and crisps as a regular part of their daily diet,” BHF dietician Victoria Taylor said.

“This generation’s food choices could have long-term consequences on their future health,” she added. (ANI)
