Blood samples taken from Scottish adults in March last year at the end of the H1N1 flu season showed that almost half were carrying antibodies to the virus. Antibodies are either produced by the body or injected through vaccines when the body is exposed to pathogens.

Swine-FluLondon, Jan 3 : Seriously ill babies and children are being forced to travel to different places across Britain as intensive care beds have been allotted to swine flu patients.

Only 15 of the country's 320 intensive care beds for infants are said to have been made free, according to the Daily Express.

There have been reports that seriously ill children have been moved up to 100 miles (160 km) in ambulances from the West Midlands to Merseyside and London.

Of the fatalities, 20 were from Delhi and 13 from outside the city, Bhattacharya added.

State Chief Secretary Sanjiv Srivastava, in a written order Friday, asked the state tourism department to publish a handout on swine flu related Dos and Don'ts which will be made available to all tourists checking into hotels in Goa, which is known for its beach-oriented tourism.

Middle-aged woman dies of swine flu in Punjab

Swine-FluAmritsar, Aug 9 : A middle-aged woman died of swine flu in Punjab, authorities said Monday.

This was the first case of swine flu in Amritsar in 2010.

"The deceased was identified as Malti Devi, 48. She was suffering from running nose, sore throat and headache and had come to us last week for treatment. Earlier she was going to some private hospital," said Hardeep Singh Ghai, district nodal officer for swine flu, here Monday evening.

The study has , therefore, concluded that coughing or other respiratory symptoms are more accurate in determining influenza infection than presence of a fever.

Currently, public health officials rely on body temperature (detecting fever) to screen individuals for potential infection with H1N1.

Kerala remains the worst affected state with 222 confirmed reports of swine flu. A rise in number of swine flu cases has been reported from all severely affected states with Maharashtra reporting 72 cases, Karnataka 31, Tamil Nadu 22, and Andhra Pradesh 19.

Swine flu claims another life in Andhra Pradesh

swine-fluHyderabad, June 22 : A pregnant woman succumbed to the H1N1 virus here Tuesday, taking the toll to two since last week in Andhra Pradesh, officials said.

The relatives of the 28-year-old woman, who hailed from Medak district, alleged that she was not given proper treatment at the Gandhi Hospital, where she had been admitted a few days back.

This is the second death due to swine flu since the first case was reported last week.
