Taipei  - Pizza Hut restaurants in Taiwan stopped giving away cheese sauce packets Thursday night after the toxic chemical melamine was found in them, the Central New Agency (CNA) reported.

It quoted Yu Kuo-hsiung, a press officer for Pizza Hut Taiwan, as confirming the recall. Pizza Hut Taiwan was to hold a news conference early Friday, CNA said. Pizza Hut has 145 outlets in Taiwan, most in Taipei.

It was not immediately clear if the melamine found in the sauce packets was related to the tainted milk powder scandal in China. (dpa)
