A study by health experts indicates that administration of pracetamol to babies can increase the chance of asthma by the age of six or seven. The study conducted on more than 200.000 children in 31 different countries, shows that paracetamol given in the first year of the child increased the asthma risk by 46%. 

Experts are still unsure about the role of the drug in asthmatic conditions but there is certainly some link between regular and frequent administration of the drug and asthma in these children. 

Parents of children in the age group of six to seven were asked questions related to symptoms of asthma, eczema and allergic conditions. They were questioned about the usage of paracetamol in the first year of the child’s life and past one year. 

The results showed higher incidence of asthma in higher and regular doses of parcetamol in children. It was found that in103,000 children who had recently taken parcetamol more than once a month in the past year had three times increased risk of asthma. Frequent use of the drug was also associated with increased risk of eczema and hay fever.
