Over-the-counter medicines a potential danger for teenagers

The over-the-counter medicines are taking a toll on teenagers as they continue to remain uninformed about the same, a US study found as the report states University of Rochester Medical Center Study assessed teens' health literacy.

When a test was performed it was observed that the teenagers failed to name the drugs as they choose acetaminophen without knowing the actual usage or the dosage of the same and thus damaging the liver.

Alarming rates of over-dosage has been registered that is potentially risk to the liver thus causing a risk to life, says Laura Shone, MSW, Dr PH, associate professor of Pediatrics at URMC's Golisano Children's Hospital.

These are believed to the aftermath caused by improper guidance and an attempt of taking self-medication thereby, putting life at risk.
