Shark cartilage is declared to fight and check a variety of sickness, especially cancer. Drug developed from shark cartilage to standard cancer treatments didn't improve the condition in patients with last-stage lung cancer in the study, sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM).

Shark cartilage has been publicized as a possible substitute or corresponding cancer healing for some decades. Numerous shark cartilage foods are sold as food substitute, but approximately none of them has been studied in humans.

A study was conducted on 400 patients. Half of them were given normal chemotherapy and radiation, and half of them were given with the shark cartilage medicine, well-known as AE-941. There was no difference observed in general survival, evolution-free survival, time-to-disease evolution, and tumor reaction rates in two groups.
