Statins Do Not Lead To Cancer

Statins Do Not Lead To CancerAccording to a new research, Statins, a popular medication that helps to normalize high levels of cholesterol, do not lead to cancer.

Earlier researches had associated the drug to an augmented chance of developing cancer tumours.

But, the new research carried out by statins expert Professor Rory Collin of Oxford University has terminated any association to cancer.

Together with a research group from the University of Sydney in Australia, boffins examined data on 170,000 patients allover the world who were fed either statins or a dummy pill.

But, the rate of cancer was the same among those had statins as it was for those taking the placebo.

Prof Collins, British Heart Foundation professor of medicine and epidemiology at Oxford University stated, "These findings are extremely reassuring for patients."

"Statins are one of the most effective known therapies for the prevention of heart attacks and strokes and this study should reassure the millions of people who are taking them worldwide," he added. (With Inputs of Agencies)
