Chinese herbal medicine can improve skin-whitening creams

Washington, March 31: Scientists have discovered active ingredients in a herb used in traditional Chinese medicine for skin whitening.
The ingredients are poised for clinical trials as a safer, more effective alternative to skin whitening creams and lotions that millions of women and some men use in Asia and elsewhere, they said.

Beijing, Feb 2 - A hair care products company in east China has been fined for using banned chemicals in its products, China's food and drug watchdog said Tuesday.
The Zhangguang 101 Co. Ltd. - based in Zhejiang province - paid 245,040 yuan (over $37,000) in fines and had its illegal gains confiscated, Xinhua reported citing a statement issued by the State Food and Drug Administration.
China bans 15 products over heart disease concern

New Delhi, Aug 20 : Health experts have warned that China is at risk of losing at least two million lives each year to smoking-related diseases.
The use of tobacco by Chinese men, 53 percent of whom are smokers, has already peaked, reports China Daily.
Each year, some one million people die from tobacco-related diseases in China, which is home to about 300 million smokers.
Indian doctors to provide free services in China

Beijing, Aug 17 : Indian and Chinese doctors Tuesday formed a team here to exchange data on health care and to offer free medical services in the rural areas of both countries, Xinhua reported.
The team comprises five ENT doctors each from China and India.
It will start a week-long visit to northern Hebei province Wednesday, where Dwarkanath Kotnis, an Indian doctor, served for eight years during the China-Japan war.

Beijing, Sep. 7 : With the surfacing of 100 new H1N1 cases since Friday, Chinese health experts have warned that the total cases nationwide will soon double to 10,000, as the peak of the outbreak has begun.

Hong Kong - A nature reserve popular with schoolchildren near Hong Kong's border with China was shut down Friday after a dead bird found there tested positive for the H5N1 avian-flu virus.
The decision to close the Mai Po reserve came after the discovery of more than 20 dead ducks, chickens and wild birds believed to have been washed ashore from neighbouring mainland China.

Hong Kong - Nine more dead birds have been found on beaches in Hong Kong, officials said Wednesday, as fears grew of a major unreported avian-flu outbreak in mainland China.
The dead ducks, chickens and birds found on Hong Kong's Lantau island Tuesday brought to 21 the number of birds found in the past six days. Most if not all are believed to have washed up from China.
