Hero MotoCorp takes tough stance against labour unrest

Hero MotoCorp takes tough stance against labour unrestTwo-wheeler giant Hero MotoCorp has declared that it would not accept any indiscipline and insubordination by workers at its plans.

Hero MotoCorp has been suffering labour unrest at its Haridwar manufacturing facility since late last month. The unrest seems to be spreading across its network as workers' union HMCWU at its Gurgaon plant has also threatened to go on a strike as a protest against the suspension of nine employees.

But, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer Pawan Munjal said yesterday that the company would not compromise on discipline.

Speaking on the topic, Mr. Munjal said, "The issue has come because of indiscipline and insubordination and the workers taking law into their own hands. This is not at all acceptable to any management and not just the Hero management."

The workers who were suspended by the management had reportedly assaulted supervisors in the shop floor of the manufacturing facility.

Mr. Munjal also announced the company's decisions to invest Rs 450-crore in the new research & development (R&D) facility at Kukas, and invest another Rs 1,300 crore in three projects in Rajasthan.
