Hong Kong - A Hong Kong peeping Tom caught as he snapped a picture up the skirt of a woman on an escalator with his mobile phone had more than 1,000 similar pictures, a court report said Thursday.

Police who arrested the 39-year-old found 346 pictures taken up the skirts of women and more than 700 photos showing the backsides of women wearing mini-skirts and shorts.

Chan Yung, who claimed to be a university professor, appeared in court Wednesday pleading guilty to committing an act to outrage public decency.

He was released on bail until June 18 when he will be sentenced.

In another case, also heard Wednesday, a 45-year-old former teacher was given a 12-month probation order after admitting taking more than 100 photographs up women's skirts and of their legs and breasts while travelling on the MTR commuter rail network.

Women's groups have been pushing for the introduction of women-only carriages on the rail network in the city of 7 million due to the growing number of cases of men taking sneaky photographs on trains and at stations at busy rush-hour times.(dpa)
