India will wait for Pakistan to carry out investigations

India, PakistanNew Delhi - India had been informed by Pakistan that its agencies had begun investigations into the Mumbai terrorist attacks and would wait for an outcome, Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee said Saturday.

"We have received information from our high commissioner in Islamabad that they (Pakistan) have started the process. Let us see how much time they take," Mukherjee was quoted as saying by PTI news agency at the sidelines of a function in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata.

Mukherjee said the Pakistani government had officially communicated to its Indian counterpart that the process of inquiry had begun on Thursday.

India claims the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant group masterminded the November attacks in Mumbai that killed more than 170 people.

India has handed Pakistan evidence collected during investigations into the Mumbai attacks which it claims show links to elements based in the neighbouring country. It has asked the Pakistani government to take action against these elements and extradite the suspects to India. (dpa)
