Indian crafts and culture saluted by designers at Kolkata Fashion Week-II

Indian crafts and culture saluted by designers at Kolkata Fashion Week-II'Earth Couture' was chosen as the theme of Kolkata Fashion Week-II which started on Wednesday. The aim of the theme was to salute the rich culture of over country.  

The collection of many fashion designers showcased traditional arts and crafts embedded in fashionable attires.

Yudhajit Dutta, organiser of the fashion event said: "We want to highlight the rich culture and tradition we belong to yet retain our modernity. KFW-II is a celebration on India's ethnic roots."

Collection of Ritu Kumar showed various crafts of West Bengal. Dresses, jackets and long tops with tights in her collection were innovative blend of traditional crafts with western cuts.  

Ritu said that her collection is a tribute; be it the embroidery workers from Uluberia, or those from Phulia and Srirampur, she mixed the retro theme with - Earth Couture.

Designs of Leena Taneja failed to create magic with lingerie designs which was an attempt to pay tribute to Audrey Hepburn.  

Zubair Kirmani's collection showcasing both mens and womenswear was appreciated by all. The use of muted colours -- plum, peach and beige was great.

Rocky S’s bridal collection with saris and crush blouses was not very impressive. 'The Earth Goddess' collection by Wendell Rodricks was remarkable. Everything from colors and fabric to designs and cuts was perfectly blended to bring out great collection.
