The latest technological achievement of India boasts of curbing fire in mere seconds.
The device developed can restrain the arc flash before it multiplies thus curbing fire.
The lead scientist behind this innovation, Dr. Asokan T, presented his solution at a conference of top scientists.
He said, "An electric arc in faulty electrical wires can set off a fire which is a killer of people and material," This and several other technological breakthroughs were discussed during the first day of the ongoing EmTech India 2010.
The event has been organized by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Technology Review and looks at the latest developments in the area.
Asokan, who also works as the chief scientist at GE John F Welch Technology Centre (JFWTC), expressed joyfully, "A big challenge was to control the arc very quickly. With this technology, the arc can be detected and contained in 6-8 milliseconds."
It is important since electric arcs can occur in the switchgear panels found in control rooms of any building with electrical fittings leading to fatal fires. An example of the same is the Carlton Towers fire which started due to its poor wiring.
