Indonesian military helicopter crashes on Java, kills two

Indonesian military helicopter crashes on Java, kills twoJakarta - An Indonesian military helicopter crashed in West Java province Monday, killing two soldiers and injuring another, media reports said.

The Bolkow BO-105 chopper belonging to the Indonesian army, with five people on board, crashed in West Java's Cianjur district, the state-run Antara news agency reported.

Army spokesman Brigadier General Christian Zebua was quoted as saying that the helicopter was being used by the army's Kopassus elite forces unit for a rescue training course when the accident took place.

"The cause of the crash is still not sure. Maybe it was due to bad weather, because it was raining with strong winds when the accident took place," Zebua was quoted as saying, adding that two Kopassus officers were killed and another one injured in the crash.

It was the latest in a series of air accidents involving Indonesian military aircraft in recent weeks.

On May 20, a Hercules military plane with 112 people on board crashed into a residential neighbourhood in East Java province, killing at least 100 people - including three people on the ground.

On April 6, a Fokker F-27 crashed into a hangar and burst into flames in West Java's capital, Bandung, killing all 24 officers on board. (dpa)
