Jackson estate sues charity

Jackson estate sues charityLos Angeles  - Michael Jackson's estate has filed suit against a charity called Heal the World that it alleges is trying to piggyback on the late singer's image by using his face and the title of one of his most famous songs.

The lawsuit claims that the Heal the World Foundation is improperly using trademarks and websites to create the impression of having been approved by Jackson to solicit donations. The lawsuit claims the foundation has used Jackson's image on its website but had no relationship with Jackson or his family.

The lawsuit claimed that the charity is trying to trick the public into thinking it is working for causes supported by Jackson and has taken advantage of his June 25 death to further its ends.

Jackson founded his own Heal the World Foundation in 1992 to help needy people around the world, but administrators of his estate said it is no longer active and is not related to the two targets of the lawsuit.

The two entities have registered six Jackson-related trademarks, have applied for 41 additional ones and have sold merchandise using those trademarks, the lawsuit stated. (dpa)
