Kawasaki to quit MotoGP world championship

Kawasaki LogoHamburg - Japanese motorcycle maker Kawasaki will quit the MotoGP World Championship with immediate effect, the autosport. com website reported on Tuesday.

Citing sources, autosport. com said that Kawasaki will make the official announcement on Monday (January 5).

The report said that Kawasaki was withdrawing from the top level series due to the global economic crisis and below-par results since returning to the event in 2003.

If the report is confirmed Kawasaki will be the fourth Japanese company within one month to quit a major motorsport series. Honda withdrew from Formula One racing on December 5, and Subaru and Suzuki then ended their participation in the rally world championship. (dpa)
