Washington, August 3 : `Sex and the City' star Kim Cattrall has revealed that she nearly gave up acting before she hit the big time after a film director told her to lose weight.

The actress was cast in 1975 movie `Rosebud' but movie mogul Otto Preminger told her she needed to lose 14pounds for the part.

"I have never been overweight a day in my life. He scared the hell out of me... I can look back and laugh. I''m still the same weight I was," Contactmusic quoted a source as saying.

However, she is grateful to Preminger for giving her the big break.

She recollected: "I was waitressing at night and barely making enough to eat anything." (ANI)
