Manama, Nov 27: Bahrain Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid Bin Ahmad Al Khalifa has said the cabinet will not resign over the government's brutal crackdown on protestors though he admitted that he was shocked by the abuses perpetrated on the civilians.

He called on the government and civil society groups, especially the largest opposition society, Al Wefaq, to "work hand in hand" to end human rights violations against citizens.

He admitted that the abuses against civilians "were committed, we are all responsible for, and the government will have to do its work hand in hand with Al Wefaq and with everyone in the civil society in order to address these issues. We cannot address them alone."

Khalifa's statement came after the report of an independent inquiry commission probe pointed out that the Bahrain Government used excessive force, intimidation and torture in a crackdown on protesters that led to fear among citizens.

The report noted that detainees were blindfolded, beaten with rubber hoses and metal rods, electrocuted and threatened with rape.

The report was formulated by a panel set up by Bahrain King Sheik Salman bin Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa to probe alleged torture and abuses.

Khalifa also described Iran as "a constant threat" to Bahrain and other Gulf states, the Gulf News reports.

Iran is "trying to destabilise the whole Arab world," he said. (ANI)
